From Gershwin to raku, you can find it all in Cherokee. This artistic community is vibrant with activity all year long plus there is something for all ages.   The Old Canton Theatre has been transformed into a performance theatre from its former life as a movie theatre and offers a full season of drama productions. Reinhardt College in Waleska offers 4 venues for arts and culture including the Funk Heritage Center and the new Floyd A & Fay W Falany Performing Arts Center. All events and exhibits are available to the public. Morning Glory Farm captures your creativity in a 40 year old cheerfully renovated red barn. Many projects involve the combination of art and nature in unique ways. Take time to experience and see the world around us through new, creative eyes. Projects are fun for the artist of any age.
For the history buffs, Cherokee offers a multitude of sites for a leisurely afternoon or a day long adventure. Ft. Bluffington was built in the 1830´s and used as a stockade during the Cherokee Removal of 1838, an event now known a the "Trail of Tears". Sixes Mill was also a site of early Cherokee settlement, later became a gold mine and a military encampment during the "Trail of Tears". A day´s adventure might also take you past the site of the Battle of Taliwa, where a major Cherokee-Creek Indian battle ensued in the mid-1700´s.
Cherokee County boasts one of the most frequently visited Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation, Allatoona Lake. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and take a respite from the rush of city living. If something a little more intense is your style, then make a visit to Dixie Speedway, a 3/8 mile banked clay oval that hosts stock car racing. There´s even a chance for the fans to test their skill in one on one, single lap spectator racing. A variety of year-round activities, classes, programs and special events abound at Cherokee County´s beautiful parks throughout the four seasons. And let´s not forget about the athlete in all of us with a set of tennis or round of golf.
Each season brings new activities to Cherokee County. Events such as the Bicycle Rodeo sponsored by the Woodstock Police Department, free weekend or lunchtime concerts in different cities, the Canton Festival of the Arts, or Cagle´s DairyAgri-tainment there´s something for all ages.   Also keep in mind numerous events relating to the county´s Indian history with the Southeastern Heritage Festival, Native American Festival and Cherokee Indian Festival and PowWow. And don´t forget all the holiday happenings such as 4th of July celebrations throughout the county and a host of Christmas celebrations including Home Town Christmas, Love Lights a Tree and Holiday Festival of Trees.
