City of Vinings

Vinings is a quaint, old time village with a rich and storied past. More than 100 years ago, the early 1900´s, Vinings became a resort for Atlantans wanting to get away from the city life, harking back to quieter times with picnics and dancing at the Pavilion. Being tucked into the woods and beside a river made Vinings the perfect spot.

Rooted in history, Vinings, originally named Paces in honor of Hardy Pace who settled on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in the early 1800´s and established Paces Ferry, was a key strategic point in the battle of Atlanta during the Civil War. Sherman first view Atlanta from Vinings mountain and used Hardy Pace´s home as headquarters during the early stages of battle. As Sherman left for Atlanta and his March to the Sea, he set fire to the 17 room antebellum mansion.

Today, Vinings retains its beauty and charm and is an oasis of past and present. Hence, Vinings Jubilee, known to residents as "downtown Vinings" accommodates residents and visitors alike by keeping with the philosophy of the community, its uniqueness and integrity all the while encouraging a slower more pedestrian friendly way of life.

Vinings is a historic treasure to all who discover it and valued by those who live and work here.
